What if a hackathon felt more like a marathon?

Hackathons usually borrow from the world of code. Dark interfaces, terminals, grids and all things tech.

But a hackathon is also a race. A burst of energy, momentum and people pushing towards the same finish line.

So for this one, I looked somewhere faster: running clubs, marathon graphics and old-school sportswear. Less hackathon. More race day.

What it became:

A high-energy identity built from the visual language of race day. Runner numbers, finish-line graphics, vintage athletics typography and team merch turn the hackathon into something that feels less like another tech event and more like a shared race towards the finish line.

What it became:

A high-energy visual language built around the spirit of race day. Bold typography, retro sports graphics and playful running references turned the hackathon into something that felt less like another developer event and more like a team you wanted to join.

The idea wasn't to make a hackathon look like running. It was to find another world that shared the same energy.

Sometimes the best visual language is already hiding in how something feels.

What if a crypto conference felt more like a luxury hotel?

Crypto conferences love to look like crypto conferences. Tech, scale, hype, more hype.

But for an invite-only event, being seen by everyone isn't really the point.
The magic is knowing not everyone gets in.

So I looked somewhere else. Luxury hotels, private clubs and places that have mastered the art of making an invitation feel special.

Less tech conference. More private invitation.

What it became:

An identity built around the feeling of being invited somewhere special. Elegant serifs, a handwritten signature and thoughtful details borrowed from hospitality make the experience feel less like attending another crypto conference and more like being welcomed in.

Hotels understand something conferences often forget: how to make access feel valuable.

What if research felt more like excavation?

Most AI research tools promise the same thing: speed. Faster searches, faster answers, less time digging through papers.

But scientific research isn't only about finding something quickly. It's about getting closer to what's actually there.

So I started thinking about depth. Layers of knowledge. Cross-sections. Structures hidden beneath the surface.

That took me somewhere unexpected: geology, biological samples and scientific strata. Less search engine. More excavation.

What it became:

A visual identity built around depth, layers and the idea of going beneath the surface. Cross-sections, scientific imagery and editorial typography turn the act of digging deeper into a visual language for research.

Search finds what's visible. Research asks what lies beneath.
